2013 Cosplay: Lookback and Lessons Learned

Hullo world and off to another shameless post which has my photos everywhere! I thought for the starting month of the year, as I’m prepping for my 2014 Cosplay Plans, I might as well look back at my 2013 cosplays and what I learned from them this 2013.

Fire Emblem: Awakening Tiki costume worn on Fantasy Quest 3. Sewed in a week, it’s quality in-person and the measurements aren’t very good yet. I can do better. Perhaps one day I’ll remake this.

Fantasy Quest 3 | Fire Emblem Tiki Cosplay

scenery

Last Sunday, my siblings and I went to Fantasy Quest for the first time! I’ve been planning to go to the event since the first time they started the event three years ago. I have seen lots of good photos with great scenery from the cosplayers who have shared their event photos, but as tickets weren’t so accessible then (and on-site ticket selling was not yet confirmed in the first two years) there was slight discouragement to attend on my part. (But that was because I am a lazy girl who don’t want to line up in banks for a bank deposit, and now hurray to online banking.)

Oh-No Manga 2013 Recap

This is a very late re-cap post of Oh No! Manga Cosplay Camp last July 7. Joey and I decided to attend the event to have some much-deserved, much-wanted fun and relaxation. We barely have photos of any cosplayers since we ourselves just chilled out and later wandered around Mall of Asia. Here are some photos of the event though, for those that are curious of what went-on.

Ozine Fest 2013 Cosplay + Shopping Haul.

I WENT TO LAST Saturday’s Ozine Fest in Megamall mainly to meet-up with sweet clients of mine. I mostly go to conventions to check out the merchandise and stuff for sale and shop shop shop, but this time I held back, knowing I was there to pick up a Taobao haul I pre-purchased online though Dolly House Shop. Buut that also didn’t stop me from dropping by my friend Tsuza Art‘s booth to get some prints~ ❤

I bought the ultra-cute Vanellope print and Tsuza gave me the Serah bookmark for free! I chose these prints because once upon a time I wanted to cosplay these two but now that I’m old (guuhh) I probably won’t do a good job so I’ll leave it to the tweeners. Also is it a coincidence these two have accessories that are bestsellers in my own shop, Three Smitten Kittens? ❤

On Renting Cosplay Costumes + Lili Mini-shoot Photos

RECENTLY I DECIDED to rent a Lili costume from Mame’s Cosplay Shop, owned by Mayden Ong. Lili’s costume is very pretty and something I can actually wear on a regular basis and would love to own, but having it made, and ordering my own wig, can be very expensive. I’ll probs have to spend around 2k on it, that and it’ll take up closet space, which I’m not in the luxury of.

…So I decided to rent when I saw that Mame’s Cosplay Shop had it among their items available for rent. I was going to use it for a personal mini-shoot my brother and I had been planning. Let me give my review of the shop and the pros and cons of renting in general.

Lili Rochefort from Tekken

AFFORDABILITY:

I rented the costume at 800Php, wig included in the package. This really saves you a lot if you were actually going to have the costume made for yourself and bought a new wig.

The assurance fee/deposit may be a bit heavy on the pocket though, as it was 1500Php. While I understand that there is a need on the seller’s part to be sure that her items will be taken care of and damages (if any) will be covered, dishing out 2000+ in one day is a heavy feat. Maybe there could have been some ways to lessen it, say what other shops do where you can provide a valid ID or gadget to lower your deposit fee.

Me as Lili.
