Lucaille.com Shopping Experience and Wig Review

Lucaille is famously known in the local cosplay community for their vast catalog of high-quality wigs. With that being said, local sellers offer pre-orders of their wig for anywhere from P1500 to over P2000. It’s a brand I’ve avoided because it was always so pricey, and I was always a cheapskate. (Why I can justify buying an Alpaca wig for almost the same price is beyond me)

But  then Lucaille opened an english shopping website with the same shocking Taobao prices. (aka CHEAP) Their short wigs are at 15$ (P600-700), their long wigs at 20$ (P900), which are all a far cry from the usual P1500-P2000 they’re all sold for locally. The cheapskate in me cannot let this pass. We mean to cosplay Elsa and Anna (Frozen) and Jack Frost (Rise of the Guardians) this year anyway, so I decided to look at Lucaille.com for said wigs. It would be tedious to go on the hunt for on-hand of said wigs anyway. So find out how I spent just P3000 for three Lucaille wigs, and my review on the wig quality overall.

Where to Rent: Cosplay Costumes in the Philippines

Since I noticed many people were looking for where they can rent costumes locally, I figured it was high-time I made a post about recommended places to rent great quality costumes. You may need these for an office party, a one-time photoshoot, or even for a contest. Also, at the end I included my personal notes on renting.

Now let’s start with some Rent Shops / Costume Owners that I know of! In no particular order. I am not affiliated with any of the shops. I’m posting them here based on my experiences with them, based on what I see and hear about them (totally legit and has good feedbacks) and some may be run by acquaintances. The facebook page links are all included so you may contact THEM at their respective pages. Don’t ask me if I rent out my stuff, coz I don’t. xD

Wig Review: Alpaca

Sooo last May I joined another Taobao batch on Dolly House and got myself an Alpaca wig, for my C.C. cosplan. I’ve browsed through other stores first, but found that they are either out of stock (Grand Young, Fantasy Sheep) or (2) lean towards a neon-green hue, which is never flattering on anyone. In my quest I narrowed down my choices to Alpaca… or CC Kids, since I’ve seen a C.C. cosplayer use that wig brand and it looked pretty nice color-wise, albeit looking a bit thin (but hey, it was way cheaper).

I went for Alpaca instead since I’ve been crushing on the brand ever since I saw it, and I’ve heard good things about them. I placed my order for this wig:

On Renting Cosplay Costumes + Lili Mini-shoot Photos

RECENTLY I DECIDED to rent a Lili costume from Mame’s Cosplay Shop, owned by Mayden Ong. Lili’s costume is very pretty and something I can actually wear on a regular basis and would love to own, but having it made, and ordering my own wig, can be very expensive. I’ll probs have to spend around 2k on it, that and it’ll take up closet space, which I’m not in the luxury of.

…So I decided to rent when I saw that Mame’s Cosplay Shop had it among their items available for rent. I was going to use it for a personal mini-shoot my brother and I had been planning. Let me give my review of the shop and the pros and cons of renting in general.

Lili Rochefort from Tekken

AFFORDABILITY:

I rented the costume at 800Php, wig included in the package. This really saves you a lot if you were actually going to have the costume made for yourself and bought a new wig.

The assurance fee/deposit may be a bit heavy on the pocket though, as it was 1500Php. While I understand that there is a need on the seller’s part to be sure that her items will be taken care of and damages (if any) will be covered, dishing out 2000+ in one day is a heavy feat. Maybe there could have been some ways to lessen it, say what other shops do where you can provide a valid ID or gadget to lower your deposit fee.

Me as Lili.
